A medical aid is a scheme that ensures you against medical expenses, both hospitalisation and day to day expenses. There are a lot of different variations and options available in the market suit your specific needs.
Hospital plans only ensure you against the medical expenses occurred when you are hospitalised and does not cater for your day to day expenses.
Gap cover is basically shortfall cover, it protects you against the shortfall you might have when being hospitalised. When receiving a bill from a GP and/or specialist while hospitalised that is greater than what your medical aid or hospitals plan covers, your GAP COVER will cover the shortfall up to R150 000 per annum per person.
